Predictions for UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn II

BJ Penn

BJ Penn

Here I will post my predictions for the Main Card of UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn II.

Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn

It seems like every time there is a UFC PPV, someone has to say "This is the biggest fight in UFC history."  I don't know that the fight between Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn can be called that, but it is certainly up there.  This will be the second time the two face off against each other in the UFC with the first fight being earned by St. Pierre via split decision.  A very controversial split decision.  Penn seemed to have control in the first round with the second and third both seemingly in the air.

It is generally agreed that both fighters are much better than the first time they fought.  St. Pierre is arguably the best wrestler in MMA and Penn has piled up three impressive wins in a row against top fighters.  Penn also seems to have fixed his little conditioning problem.  Penn is a better striker than St. Pierre but St. Pierre is much faster.  Look for Penn to be patient standing and find holes in GSP's busrts.  Penn has an amazing chin and has never been KO'd.  St. Pierre knows this coming in and will probably put BJ's conditioning to the test and try to drag this out to a five round contest.

I expect BJ Penn to finish Georges St. Pierre in the third round via stoppage.  That is my prediction for the GSP vs. BJ Penn fight.

Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva is coming off an injury that forced him out of his intitial matchup with Lyoto Machida that was scheduled for last October.  Lyoto is coming off a decision victory over Tito Ortiz.

I expect Thiagos conditioning and Lyotos elusiveness to be that major factor here.  While I would love to see Thiago do his patented neckslice to the camera after a knockout, I think he will gas against Lyoto.

I predict Lyoto Machida to defeat Thiago Silva via unanimous decision.

Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones

The fight between Stephan Bonnar and Jon Jones is tough to call with Bonnars recent time off from the UFC but I will go ahead and pick Bonnar to win either way.  Bonnar is very hungry to make his return to the UFC.

Karo Parisyan vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Karo Parisyan has been very dissapointing as of late and is far from the contender status he enjoyed a few years ago.  I think he should have taken that fight with Fitch when he had the chance.

I predict Dong Hyun Kim defeats Karo Parisyan via stoppage in the second round.

Nate Diaz vs. Clay Guida

The always entertaining Clay Guida fights Nate Diaz in the first televised fight of the night at UFC 94.  Guida is always a hungry fighter but I think Nate Diaz will do everything he can to get this fight to the ground and submit Guida.

I predict Nate Diaz submits Clay Guida in the second round after Guida beats up on him for awhile.

B.J. Penn Vs. Georges St. Pierre – UFC 94

Georges St Pierre Vs B.J. PennUFC 94 is set to showcase two of the best pound-for-pound MMA fighters on the planet with George St. Pierre putting his UFC Welterweight Championship title on the line against "The Prodigy" B.J. Penn.  This is a rematch between the two from UFC 58 in which St. Pierre won a split decision against Penn.

This is a highly anticipated matchup as both fighters have improved  by leaps and bounds since their last fight.  Georges has added wrestling to the list of things he's better at than everyone else and B.J. has dedicated himself to being the best fighter he can be as opposed to just being a the best fighter  he can be without having to try hard.

I would like to give an early prediction to this fight and say that B.J. Penn will be the victor.  I think Penn is much more tenacious than Pierre.  Penn wants to beat Pierre more than anything while it seems that to GSP, this UFC thing is just a job.  That's not to say Georges can't beat Penn.  I just think that Penn wants it more.  As far as skill, athleticism and professionalism go, St. Pierre is tops.  Let's hope he comes in wanting to destroy Penn.

The fight may be sold out, but you can still find UFC Event Tickets for sale.

Big MMA fan!

BJ PennGood three or so weeks of MMA coming up!

For starters, there's UFC 84 tomorrow night.  BJ Penn defends his title against Sean Sherk in the main event.  I'm a BJ Penn fan, just because he's so different from other mma fighters.  That and I really dislike Sherk as a person and a fighter, so I'm looking forward to Penn handling Sherk easily.  My prediction, BJ Penn beats Sherk via submission in the first roud.

Next week, May 31st, we have EliteXC making its CBS debut.  It's also the first-ever live MMA event on network TV.  Super excited about that!  I would like to see MMA become a bit more mainstream.  I do worry about EliteXC handling the event.  I don't think showing ladies competeing is wise for this first show, but what do I know?

The next day (June 1st) we have probably the biggest WEC card we've seen.  The main event pretty much makes this worth watching (and the fact that its free to watch on the Versus chanel.)  Urijah Faber defends his 145lb title against Jens Pulver.  I wll watch any Jens Pulver fight.  The dude is just exciting all-around.  I saw his last fight in the WEC against Cub Swanson.  Pulver definately out-classed Cub with a very quick first round win.  And Urijah is in the top ten pound for pound fighters in the world.  I can't wait!
