Chuck Liddell

Chuck Liddell will fight Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 97 in the main event in April.  Chuck Liddell recently was TKO'd in September by Rashad Evans.  Shogun just beat Mark Coleman last night at UFC 93.

Both of these fighters were considered the best of strikers in the Light Heavyweight division as recently as two years ago.  Losses and injuries to both fighters have many questioning whether they are the elite fighters they once were.

Liddell was set to fight Rua last summer but a knee injury suffered by Shogun forced him out of the event.  Liddell quickly followed suit after a severe hamstring injury.

UFC 97 is scheduled to take place in April in Montreal.  It will be the UFC's second event in Canada.  We can expect to see the card full of hometown fighters.

Rampage Jackson

"The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine will be up against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in the main event of UFC 96 in Columbus Ohio.  This is a great matchup for both fighters as a win by other win would probably result in a title shot.  Jackson recently defeated Wanderlei Silva with a brutal knockout.  Jardine hasn't fought since his decision win over Brandon Vera.

UFC 96 will be the UFC's third straight year putting on an event at the same time as the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus.  You may still find UFC 96 Event Tickets still for sale.

Dan Henderson

Dan Henderson edged out Rich Franklin to earn the decision yesterday and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua stopped Mark Coleman in the third round after a less than stellar performance.

Henderson defeated Franklin with a split decision even though it was believed by many that a decision would go to Franklin.  Dan did well in the first two rounds catching Franklin with a few big overhand rights.  Franklin came on strong in the third round but could not finish.

Shogun earned a stoppage in his grudge match with Mark Coleman.  Coleman lasted until the third round against Rua despite looking very tired.  Both fighters looked tired at times in a bout in which Rua was expected to easily stop Coleman.  Shogun has not looked like the same dominant fighter that tore through Pride.  His last two fights have been in the UFC and he has gassed pretty heavily in both matches.

UFC 93 will take place in Dublin at the O2 Arena.  The main event features Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson in a Light Heavyweight matchup that MMA fans are drooling over.  Both have moved to the Light Heavyweight division as it is the only logical thing to do with Anderson Silva stalking the Middleweight division.

UFC 93 Predictions

I have listed the UFC 93 fight card already so now I will list my predictions for UFC 93.  I did not do so hot for my last set of predictions for UFC 92 so let's see how I fare this time around.

We will start with the main event featuring Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin.

I don't think Hendersons striking is on par with Rich Franklin.  Dan has a ton of power to his punches but they are very slow and tend to be easy to spot.  Hendersons main strength in striking is his ability to take a punch.  Dans strategy should be to grind out a decision with his wrestling and take downs.  His clinch is top notch and, if he can get in close, he should be able to take Franklin down.

Rich Franklin is very much still a threat on his feet against anyone.  He doesn't have a ton of power behind his strikes but they do wear on opponents.  They will probably not wear on Henderson the same way though.  Frankins game plan should be to avoid the take downs of  Henderson and try to wear Dan out on his feet by out-striking him and winning a decision on his feet.

I predict Rich Franklin via decision.

The other bout on this card drawing a lot of attention is Shogun Rua vs Mark Coleman.  The two faced off before in Pride where Coleman won  after Shogun dislocated his elbow.

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is a very highly ranked Light Heavyweight who has defeated top-ranked opponents in the past, including ex-light heavyweight champ, Rampage Jackson.  He is a very tenacious fighter who has black belts in both muay-thai and brazilian jiu jitsu.  His game plan should be to run through Coleman very quickly and earn a quick TKO.

Coleman is at the tail end of a Hall of Fame career.  He is a pioneer of mixed martial arts but has not fared to weel recently in his bouts.  Expect Coleman to look for a something similar to his last bout with Shogun to win the fight and avoid Ruas ferocious striking.

I predict Shogun by some sort of devastating strikes in the first round.

Roger Huerta

Roger Huerta has announced that he will not be re-signing with the UFC.  Huerta recently told Sherdog that he would not be signing on with the UFC and other media outlets have recently confirmed.

According to Huerta, he intended to re-sign but "all that other stuff came up."  That other stuff being acting and/or modeling.  Huerta has been criticized over his decision by many in the MMA community who say that walking away would make it difficult to return.  Huerta insists that his relationship with the UFC is very strong and that he wants to eventually return.

"The UFC is my home," Huerta said. "They are my family, and eventually I should be coming back to them."

Josh Neer

UFC Fight Night 17 will be televised on SpikeTV February 7th.  The event will be headlined by Joe Lauzon and Hermes Franca, two exciting Lightweight UFC fighters.

Also on the nights card is Josh Neer who was recently in the headlines for his New Years shenanigans.  Neer faces Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig.

I'm sorry to announce to our readers that the apocolypse is now upon us.  I read over at Cagepotato today that the absolute lamest sport of all time has been concocted by the self-proclaimed creator of MMA and it's making it's ugly way through Youtube.

Xarm was created by co-ufc creator Art Davie and, as you can tell by the video, it is by far the lamest sport created in the history of mankind.  I think I got dumber watching this video.  Call me clueless but I had no idea this thing was out there.  Who thinks of this stuff?  And pushes it to other sane human beings who then follow and help create it?  Insanity.

So the premise of XARM is two guys standing at a table armwrestling and punching and kicking each other at the same time!  I don't usually type acronyms like this, but WTF?  Does anyone out there actually find this entertaining?

I'm forced to put this post into the "Uncategorized" catagory.

Rashad Evans is the third man to hold the UFC's Light Heavyweight Championship belt this year after defeating Forrest Griffin.  Evans and Griffin fought in the main event for the title at UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 Saturday night.  The two were awarded FIght of the Night honors after their bout and each received $60,000 bonuses for their efforts.

Rashad Evans has come along way since his time on the Ultimate Fighter series and has proven his mettle against every fighter the UFC has put in the Octagan with him.  Evans will not fly under the radar anymore as he is now the Champion of the most stacked division in mixed martial arts.  His first title defense should most likely be against Rampage Jackson who also put on a stellar performance against Wanderlei Silva Saturday night at UFC 92.

Frank Mir put on an amazing performance Saturday night at UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 in not only defeating one of the top UFC Heavyweights, but finishing a man that has never been stopped in 37 MMA fights.  Mir came in with an excellent gameplan and stopped Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to claim the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship Title.

Frank Mir knocked Big Nog down three times with clean striking in the first round but never took top position against him.  Unstead he forced Nogueira to stand and trade with him rather than taking the fight to the ground and allow Antonio to recover.  In the second round Mir hit him with two stiff left hands and dropped him.  Mir is the first man to stop Nogueira.

Frank Mir will now face Brock Lesnar in what is sure to be a huge UFC event sometime early next year to unify the UFC Heavyweight Championship belts.
