WEC: Carlos Condit vs Hiromitsu Muira

The WEC consistently puts on good shows with excellent fights.  Today was no exception.  Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" Condit vs. Hiromitsu Muira was a great championship bout in the nights main event.

I've seen Condit fight before and easily handle the competition the WEC has been able to put in front of him but Muira stepped in to the cage ready for an all out war.  Condit did not seem to realize how strong Muira was going to be and he underestimated Muira's excellent Judo skills.  Muira was able to throw Condit around like a rag doll the first round of the fight but Condit managed to score some points at the end of the round with some good old fashioned ground and pound.

The second was more of the same with a very good pace to it that obviously took a toll on the fighters.  The third round was much slower but had good flurries of striking from the two.  Muira impressed me with his punching ability and with how easily he muscled his way out of bad situations with Condit on top or applying submissions.

The two seemed to gas by the fourth round.  Muira did another slick sweep of Condit but then Condit stood up and threw a knee out there that happened to catch Muira slightly but enough to take him down.  He pounded him out and the ref stepped in.

More on the Randy Couture Saga

Just a quick follow up on my last post about Randy Couture.  It seems Randy lost one of the battles with the UFC with the Texas court system when the court ruled in favor of the UFC regarding his contractual status.  Basically the court told HDNet that it did not want anything to do with the case and would leave things up to arbitration.  You can read the whole story yourself over at MMAJunkie.

It would seem Randy will not have an easy time getting out of his contract with the UFC.

Quick Thoughts on Randy Couture

Randy CoutureFirst off I want to say that Randy Couture is about as classy as a fighter can be.  Most who have seen him fight, lose and win would say the same.  So, regardless of how this post might come across, I am a huge Randy Couture fan.

With that said, I wish he would just finish his UFC contract already.  I mean, honestly, regardless of what his beef with Dana White or the UFC might be, the dude signed his name to a piece of paper and promised to fight for a certain amount of time and that is exactly what he should do.  Tito Ortiz finished it.  Why can't Randy?

Ok.  So the UFC screwed you with the some money stuff.  And let's not forget the Emeliananko fight that never transpired.  Those stipulations were not in your contract Randy!  You agreed to fight a certain amount of fights.  Period.  Stick to your word, keep your mouth shut in the meantime and finish it!

I can't wait to see Randy "The Natural" Couture take on Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko.  I have no doubt that the fight will live up to all the hype and that those two men will put on a MMA show for the ages.  But I feel like the whole thing is sullied a bit with Randy breaking his word with the organization that put MMA on the map.  Is the UFC perfect?  No way, no how.  But they do have a contract with Randy's sig on it.  That is all the courts will need.
