Wanderlei Silva came back back in a big way last night at UFC 84 knocking out Kieth Jardine 38 seconds into the first round. Silva is coming off 3 straight losses, so its good to see him get a good win in against a strong opponent.
Lyoto Machida rained on Tito Ortiz's parade by taking their fight 3 rounds and making Tito look boring. Lyoto frustrated Tito all night by staying out of his reach and sneaking in strikes to steal the rounds. I would have liked to see some more offense out of Machida but it pretty much went the way I thought it would.
The main event between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk was a let down to! I expected Penn to demolish Sherk. Sherk lasted until the end of the third round when Penn finally got a clean shot in and then floored Sherk with a knee to the face. I couldn't understand Sherk not shooting for takedowns as that is the only offense he's displayed in the UFC but he stood and traded with Penn for most of those three rounds. He later said he thought he was getting the better of those exchanges. I think most viewers would disagree.

Good three or so weeks of MMA coming up!
For starters, there's UFC 84 tomorrow night. BJ Penn defends his title against Sean Sherk in the main event. I'm a BJ Penn fan, just because he's so different from other mma fighters. That and I really dislike Sherk as a person and a fighter, so I'm looking forward to Penn handling Sherk easily. My prediction, BJ Penn beats Sherk via submission in the first roud.
Next week, May 31st, we have EliteXC making its CBS debut. It's also the first-ever live MMA event on network TV. Super excited about that! I would like to see MMA become a bit more mainstream. I do worry about EliteXC handling the event. I don't think showing ladies competeing is wise for this first show, but what do I know?
The next day (June 1st) we have probably the biggest WEC card we've seen. The main event pretty much makes this worth watching (and the fact that its free to watch on the Versus chanel.) Urijah Faber defends his 145lb title against Jens Pulver. I wll watch any Jens Pulver fight. The dude is just exciting all-around. I saw his last fight in the WEC against Cub Swanson. Pulver definately out-classed Cub with a very quick first round win. And Urijah is in the top ten pound for pound fighters in the world. I can't wait!
