Nick Diaz Vs. Scott Smith

Great card last night put on by Strikeforce.  Strikeforce has always been an awesome MMA orginization (even Dana White says so) and now with it's acquisition of EliteXC, Strikeforce has some big names to fill fight cards and draw the more casual MMA crowd.

In the upset of the night, Brett Rogers took advantage of a notoriously weak Andrei Arlovski chin and knocked him out very quickly.  jake Shields got knocked around by Robbie Lawler early and then showed his submission skills by locking in a choke hold and submitting him.

My favorite fight of the night was Nick Diaz defeating Scott Smith.  Smith looked good at times during the fight but he never could get a good range.  Diaz picked him apart and ended it with a submission after a brutal liver shot.

Strikeforce results:

  • Jake Shields Defeats Robbie Lawler via submission (guillotine choke) - Round 1, 2:02
  • Brett Rogers Defeats Andrei Alorvski via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 0:22
  • Nick Diaz Defeats Scott Smith via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 3, 1:41
  • Joe Riggs Defeats Phil Baroni via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Mike Whitehead Defeats Kevin Randleman via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Frank Trigg

Frank Trigg

The MMA universe is getting rumblings of a possible Frank Trigg Vs. Josh Koscheck matchup in September.  This would be an awesome fight in my opinion if this is true.

Trigg is a veteran welterweight who has fought in the UFC before.  He has won his last four fights.  Koscheck is always willing to fight anyone and has recently shown improved standup, although he's lost his last 2 of 3.

You can keep up with Frank Trigg's twitter updates via @FRANKTRIGG.  I don't know Koschecks twitter account but if you do drop a line would ya.

Dana White Tweets

Dana White Tweets

Dana White has been spewing obscenities long enough for UFC fans to no longer be shocked by them but casual fans may not have experienced it before.  Dana is fixing that with his Twitter account.  Keep up with Dana to see which minority group he manages to offend next.

Chuck Liddell Living it Up
Chuck Liddell Living it Up

I'm a big Chuck Liddell fan.  After he beat Wanderei I really though he'd make a comeback and regain his title.  I mean who were the other contenders at the time?  Forrest Griffin?  Rashad Evans?  Those dudes would never be Light Heavyweight Champs right?

It's about a year and a half later, and two KTFO's later, and it's pretty clear that he's well past his prime.  That and guys just know how to fight him now.  Do I want to see Chuck retire?  I think it would be best for him to.  He could have a nice career suiting up for the UFC in the day and still partying like he always done at night.

Problem is he seems like he doesn't want to retire for whatever reason.  His trainer is going around talking about "One fight left" on his contract.  And Dana White has made his stance on Liddell continuing to fight very obvious.  It seems the UFC is trying to sell off all Chuck Memorabilia and will probably induct him into the Hall of Fame.

I think the UFC might be going about it wrong.  Just let Liddell mull things over for a few months and he'll probably decide retirement is the best route.  Pushing it on him this way might turn him into the next Ken Shamrock.

Georges St. Pierre dominates Bj Penn for four full rounds before the Dr.'s Stoppage.  GSP dominated Bj on the ground and standing, wrestling and takedowns.   An awesome performance by Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94.

Lyoto Machida knocks out Thiago Silva after dominating the standup in the first round.  Lyoto earned a takedown, then came down with a punch on top of Thiago for the knockout just as the round ended.

Here are all the results for UFC 94: St. Pierre Vs. Penn II

Georges St. Pierre def. B.J. Penn via TKO

Lyoto Machida def. Thiago Silva via knockout

Jon Jones def. Stephan Bonnar via unanimous

Karo Parisyan def. Dong Hyun Kim via split decision

Clay Guida def. Nate Diaz via split decision

Jon Fitch def. Akihiro Gono via unanimous decision

Thiago Tavares def. Manny Gamburyan via unanimous decision

John Howard def. Chris Wilson via split decision

Jake O'Brien def. Christian Wellisch via split decision

Dan Cramer def. Matt Arroyo via split decision

BJ Penn

BJ Penn

Here I will post my predictions for the Main Card of UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn II.

Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn

It seems like every time there is a UFC PPV, someone has to say "This is the biggest fight in UFC history."  I don't know that the fight between Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn can be called that, but it is certainly up there.  This will be the second time the two face off against each other in the UFC with the first fight being earned by St. Pierre via split decision.  A very controversial split decision.  Penn seemed to have control in the first round with the second and third both seemingly in the air.

It is generally agreed that both fighters are much better than the first time they fought.  St. Pierre is arguably the best wrestler in MMA and Penn has piled up three impressive wins in a row against top fighters.  Penn also seems to have fixed his little conditioning problem.  Penn is a better striker than St. Pierre but St. Pierre is much faster.  Look for Penn to be patient standing and find holes in GSP's busrts.  Penn has an amazing chin and has never been KO'd.  St. Pierre knows this coming in and will probably put BJ's conditioning to the test and try to drag this out to a five round contest.

I expect BJ Penn to finish Georges St. Pierre in the third round via stoppage.  That is my prediction for the GSP vs. BJ Penn fight.

Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva is coming off an injury that forced him out of his intitial matchup with Lyoto Machida that was scheduled for last October.  Lyoto is coming off a decision victory over Tito Ortiz.

I expect Thiagos conditioning and Lyotos elusiveness to be that major factor here.  While I would love to see Thiago do his patented neckslice to the camera after a knockout, I think he will gas against Lyoto.

I predict Lyoto Machida to defeat Thiago Silva via unanimous decision.

Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones

The fight between Stephan Bonnar and Jon Jones is tough to call with Bonnars recent time off from the UFC but I will go ahead and pick Bonnar to win either way.  Bonnar is very hungry to make his return to the UFC.

Karo Parisyan vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Karo Parisyan has been very dissapointing as of late and is far from the contender status he enjoyed a few years ago.  I think he should have taken that fight with Fitch when he had the chance.

I predict Dong Hyun Kim defeats Karo Parisyan via stoppage in the second round.

Nate Diaz vs. Clay Guida

The always entertaining Clay Guida fights Nate Diaz in the first televised fight of the night at UFC 94.  Guida is always a hungry fighter but I think Nate Diaz will do everything he can to get this fight to the ground and submit Guida.

I predict Nate Diaz submits Clay Guida in the second round after Guida beats up on him for awhile.

Urijah Faber defeats Jens Pulver with a choke hold in the first round at WEC 38.  Urijah hurt Pulver in the first round with a body shot that had Jens backing up.  Urijah pounced and locked in a choke hold that had Pulver tapping very quickly.

We are still watching the other bouts at WEC 38.

Fedor Vs. Arlovski

Fedor Vs. Arlovski

Fedor Emelianenko defeated Andrei "The Pit Bull" Arlovski last night at Affliction: Day Of Reckoning.  Fedor stunned the crowd with a quick right hand that nobody, especially not Arlovski, saw coming.  Arlovski appeared to be dominating the standup and frustrating Emelianko early in the first round.  When it seem Andrei was ready to move in for the kill, Fedor simply threw a right hand that was on target and undefended.  Arlovski crumpled to the mat.

Fedor tells reporters after the fight that he was never in any real danger, despite Arlovski having him against the ropes.  "I didn't really think that I was really in any danger in the fight," Emelinaneno said through an interpreter. "I like to feel that I felt -- not only usually, but particularly in this fight -- felt comfortable and OK with where I was during the fight. I just didn't feel that I was in any danger."

Fedor looked like he was staggering in the corner when Andrei came in with a flying knee.  Fedor cemented his legend one punch later and Arlovski laying face down in the mat.

Brett Cooper Defeats Patrick Speight via TKO (punches) -- Round 1, 4:10
Albert Rios Defeats Antonio Duarte via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
L.C. Davis Defeats Bao Quach via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Defeats Vladimir Matyushenko via TKO (strikes) -- Round 2, 4:26
Dan Lauzon Defeats Josh Green via submission -- Round 1, 4:55
Paul Buentello Defeats Kiril Sidelnikov via TKO (doctor's stoppage due to cuts) -- Round 3, 4:18
Renato "Babalu" Sobral Defeats Rameau Thierry Sookoudjou via submission (D'arce choke) -- Round 2, 2:36
Josh Barnett Defeats Gilbert Yvel via submission (strikes) -- Round 3, 3:05
Fedor Emelianenko Defeats Andrei Arlovski via KO (punch) -- Round 1, 3:34

In case anyone missed this fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia, here it is again.  The video is about five minutes long but the fight is only 36 seconds long as that is how long it takes for Fedor to completely dismantle former UFC champion Tim Sylvia.

This Saturday we have the sophomore presentation for Affliction.  Affliction's second show may have a few problems selling pay-per-views as it is sandwiched right between two UFC Events.

Here is the full card for Affliction "Day Of Reckoning":
